Blade Reed is a 17-year-old teen who has been incarcerated at Indiana Prison Wabash, since he was 14 for robbery with severe bodily injury.
Blade's circumstances are usual to the many circumstances of the kids and teens that end up in the system.  He and his siblings were taken away from their parents (he was 4) because the father was sexually assaulting the kids, including Blade.  Blade went to a couple of foster homes where he encountered more abuse and eventually was adopted by the Reeds.  There has been concern that he was sexually abused by Mr. Reed.  Mr. and Mrs. Reed are currently in the middle of court proceedings and I am not sure exactly what for but the man is a real headcase.
In short, Bennie, Blade's older brother went to a home in the neighborhood and Blade waited outside.  Bennie went in and pulled out a gun, the owner of the home pulled out his gun and shot Bennie who then shot the owner, killing him.

The wife came down and asked him to put down the gun because it could be loaded and offered to help Bennie since he had been shot. Bennie said lets see if it's loaded and shot her.  Blade came in after all the noise.  Bennie told Blade to cut her throat because there could not be any witnesses.  Blade didn't want to do it.  Bennie insisted and Blade cut the wife's throat but didn't cut deeply because he didn't want to kill her her but he didn't want to upset the brother.
This all happened just a couple of months before Blade turned 14..  During the trial the prosecutor was accused of vindictive vengeance, a motion was filed.  I read through the court room transcripts and after being tested Blade was diagnosed with ADHD and severe mental delays.  It was highly recommended that he go to a juvenile detention center until he was 18 and not to an adult prison.  The judge also made that recommendation but the prosecutor put him in an adult prison in Indiana - Wabash where Blade has been gang raped twice and tried to commit suicide twice.  Instead of getting him the mental help he needs so he can improve his coping skills they keep sentencing him to more time.
